this could be a number of problems try checking these out:

a. ignition wire connection (could be loose)
b. fuel filter (could be clogged)
c. crompession loss in the cylinders (use an oil conditioner)
d. fuel injectors could be dirty (use fuel flush system)
e. loose spark plug wire or spark plug (running on 3 cylinders)

let us know if the problem persist

dont know if u r fuel injected or have a carb. if its the latter it could be the choke. unfortunately, there isnt alot of gen 3 advice here. try www.3geez.com if u cant find anything in a search here or u dont get many responses.

I believe your going in the right direction with the IAC. Try spraying some carb cleaner into the port inside the throtle body. If you look inside it you'll see a small peep hole on on side. BUT FIRST, you'll have to warm up the engine. turn it off and then spray away. when you try to restart it again you might get some hesitation. It'll be fine, because ounce it starts going again you have loads of smoke coming out too. let it burn the carb cleaner out itself...

and hopefully solve your problem. oh! since your in the throtle body I'd spray the inside of the intake also, you see what I mean.
