Default Alternator Question

I'm thinking of putting a bigger alternator in my 2001 accord ex 4cyl. The stock one in it is rated at 80 amps. I would like to get one that was at least 130 preferrably in the 150 to 160 range. Any recommendations on brand of alternator and would i need to get a new battery/wiring also? Thanks

you will def need to get a new battery to handle the amperage, because of the faster and higher charging

upgrade the wires if you are going with a HO alt, no need to get a new battery

EDIT: upgrade ground wires and power wires

get an optimum battery also to go along with your high amp alternator....i just put a 110 amp alternator and left the reg. battery in my 98 but mine is a v6 so the stock one was rated at 90 amps i think......whats the reason of you needing a high amp alt. , you putting in alot of work on your car (screens/sound system/lighting....etc)?????

I need the high amperage for a sound system. new head unit t1000.1 amp that draws 100+ amps at rms and a component amp in the future. for now though i just have a t500.2 that pulls 50-60 amps when at rms powering a 15in RE XXX.

Honestly that one looks like a reg alternator that was tweeked to put out that high amperage, me personally for the real high output amp alternators your gonna spend a few $$$.......i had the glide series head unit, alpine v12 amp running a pair of alpine type-r components(woofer/tweeters),mono v12 amp, 12" type-r sub and capacitor on my 98 teg and never had a problem.....for your set up i don't think you'd need to change your alternator but you might want to invest in a optimum battery, it'll be able to dish out the power you and the alternator should be able to charge....plus get a cap for your system i had a rock.fosg digital cap, your sub will take the power from your cap when it needs it v.s. taking it from your battery/alternator
