Default problems with ignition switch?

My car started having an electrical problem and i think it's the ignition switch. So what happens is that when i turn the key to right before it turns the started none of the lights come on the gauges come on and i can't use the windows. However if i turn it a little bit more to just right before the starter turns on the lights on the gauges and all the normal lights that come on do, and all the electronics work as though the key was in the position before starting the car.
The car had been having some problems before like i'd turn the key and the the nothing would happen but if I i turned the key back just a bit the car would act normal.

Sounds very possible to me. I do believe that the "switch" can be replaced, without having to change the "lock" as well... meaning, you should be able to keep your old key.

BTW, what car is it?

What kinda (model, year) do you have? There was an alart from Honda that came out last year that certain model of honda has problems with Ignition switch and Honda will replace the switch for free. Please check with your honda dealer or Honda main office to see if your car qualifies for it before you replace it by yourself or spend money on it. I have 6th gen Accord, when I went to change oil last year, they changed the switch for free.
Let me know, if you need more help with this.

thanks.
Bill.
