Oh but I do. Bigger Wheels=speedo off. I think I got the basic idea. Back to the topic.

  1. I want to minimize the gap between the top of the tire and the wheel well, but also have enough clearance so the tires do not rub while driving over speed bumps and thing of that nature.
  2. I do not want the wheels or tires to stick out further than the car or wheel wells.
  3. I do not want the tires so wide that they hit or rub the fender walls while turning.
1. a set of aftermarket shocks and springs / or full coilovers will get rid of the gap.

2. 45mm or higher offset wont stock out.

3. 215/50/17 is best for 17s... i think 225/45/18 for 18s

Of course, this means that you understand completely.

I've got 18's on my 05 sedan. Offset is +42. I'm running 215/45/18 and have zero rubbing issues. My tires are Cooper Zeon's, they have a 340 wear rating.

To get rid of the gap, like Jani said, lower it. My wheels are 16s so I don't know what the best 17" width is. Definately consider lowering it though.

edit: Don't drop it more than 2" at the most.
