It's definitely not the battery or some loose connection. It's the ignition switch. I'd be willing to bet on it. I remember that recall because I had it done on my car. A bad battery or loose connection will not cause your car to just die on the highway. A car can drive without a battery. It just needs it to start. Which brings me to another point, if the battery was bad or had a loose connection somewhere then the car wouldn't even start.

I see that the recall is over 4 years old. Will the time frame matter?

Recall time frames do not matter on any make of car. You can have it fixed 20 years down the road and they still cant charge you

sweet, I appreciate the info. I gave them a call, but didn't have the VIN in front of me. There's a dealership about 15 minutes down the road in Nashville.

Thanks

If it were an intermittent connection that only broke over large bumps or something, then it would start when still. So you're saying if I walk out and pull the ground cable from the chassis (or the battery) it will keep running without a computer, spark, etc.???? I think not...

no problem. this is another common issue on 6th gens along with the main relay, transmission, clock light and EGR.

it will keep running because the car is powered by the alternator...the battery is only to start the car and to power stuff when the engine is not running.

Sort of.

The alternator creates enough of a recharge that the battery is never really drained because it is constantly being recharged within a matter of seconds.

If you have a large amount of audio running, then the story changes.

And no, the car will not keep running.

Thank you, AF. Oh and guys, don't go try pulling your negative while the engine is running...you could fry some expensive stuff...not worth it, but if you want to test it, be my guest!
