Default Main't Req'd Light--99 Sedan V6

What's up ya'll. My Maintenance Required light came on the other day for good. It started out just blinking for about 5 seconds for a couple days, now it just stays on when I turn the car on.
What's up? I've got a little over 51K on it. Does it have a 50K warning light to warn for maintenance. Should I just disconnect battery and go about my business? Or have it checked by dealer?

1999 V6 sedan
51K
-Thanks

It means maintenance is required. Read your owners manual for

A) What maintenance is required

and

B) How to shut the light off

I digged up this old thread and have a similar problem.

When I turn the ignition key in my 04 EX coupe with just 8,000 miles on it, a "maint req'd" light flashes for about 10 seconds. There's no maintenance required near 8,000 miles in the manual. I had my first oil & filter change at 5K miles and nothing is scheduled until 10K miles (next oil change). So, what else could it be? Should I go to the dealer?
Thanks

Holy shit dude, do a search. You picked out the only thread that doesn't have an answer to this problem in it. And read your owner's manual :slap:

Well a search is exactly what I had done. But I did it again and found the answer. Thanks. I also noticed while searching that these idiots asking about the "maint req'd" light seem to really be pissing you off...

look in your manual...it it suppose to come on every so many thousands of miles! There is nothing wrong with your car. Look in the manual for instructions on turning it off.

Maintence light is simply a function of the odometer reading, reminding you to pay attention to your car. Please mods make a sticky about this!!!! This question gets asked at least once a month. And people read your friggin manuals!

ok. lets see if i remember how to do this. you turn the key into the 1 position. hold the reset button. then turn it to the 2 position and hold the button untill the light goes off.

and btw. it says exactly how to do it in the owners manual
