Its probably the belt. Mine does it too. One strange thing I have is that when the headlights are on, the belt squeals a bit, turn off the headlights and it stops.

Today I tried tightening that bolt towards the bottom of the alt, however I kept on tighting it and nothing ever happened. Are you supposed to turn that bolt clockwise or CC ?

is it more of a squeal or a whine? a failing alternator will increasingly whine with more acceleration... and it usually doesnt go away.

my alt failed last month... and there was a constant whining that grew as i stepped on the gas ... it kind of sounded like an RC car h:

a whistling type of sound -> somthing wrong with the belt... either too loose.tight, or misaligned.

When standing in front and leaning over the radiator, right below the alt. there are two 10mm bolts. I was tightening the right one and it seemed like I tightened it (clockwise) forever but the slack is still there. I also turned it counter-clockwise but the tension on the belt never changed.
