Default Master cyllinder cap replacement

Hi everyone! I have a 98 Accord coupe EX. The red "brake" indicator in the instrument panel (where speedometer, etc are) stays on whenever it is very cold outside or moist conditions (i.e. car was left still overnight in the cold). I called the dealership and they said they will have to replace the master cyllinder cap.

How easy is it to replace this myself? And if so, how do I do it?

Thanks! This forum has been a great read!

I cannot understand how the dealership determined the problem over the phone, but if that is the case (I mean the master cylinder cap) it is like replacing a cap on on a myonnaise jar.

Default Where is it located?

Thanks for the prompt reply. I am not sure what the master cyllinder is and where it is located - sorry started driving only 2 yrs ago. Please could you describe where it could be reached?

Thanks!

lift the hood it should be located, near the upper right hand corner of the engine compartment (Driverside) it should be the only liquid filled container.

When you look at the master cylinder you should be able to see how much fluid you have in it. There are two marks on the body. One is Low and one is Normal (if I remember it right). If the fluid is at the Low mark you will have to buy brake fluid in any automotive supply store. Make sure you verify the correct type. As far as I know most of the cars (including yours) use DOT3. Add fluid.
By the way low fluid level could trigger the brake warning light.

also if the fluid is low that most likely means that ur pads are low and u need a brake job

or there's leaks and thats no good

I do not have enough experience with Hondas, but in my Subaru I had to add fluid two to three times before the pads were due. So before just replacing them make sure you need new ones.
To check them out remove front wheel(s) and look into the small caliper window. For more detail do search on the site and I am sure you will find a lot of information plus pictures.
