Yep. I don't know of any Honda engine that is not interference.

The S2K might be considering the timing device is chain driven and not belt driven.

It doesn't have anything to do with chain v belt. FYI, the K and R series engines are all chain driven as well.

On a side note, the S2000 uses only 2 sprockets...the upper sprocket drives twin gears. One is a 'scissor gear'...basically, the gear is sliced in half and fitted with a very stiff torsion spring connecting each half which reduces gear backlash. These drive the camshafts. Very, very cool.

edit: TODA makes adjustable gears, you can see how the one on the left is the scissor gear:

And valve clearance when the higher lift vtec cam is on. But even sb 350's have valve reliefs.

the A20a3 is a not interference even tho the manual says it is....we have had 10-20 of those cars come in back in the 90's , I even broke my belt on my prelude a20a3 doing 70 on the freeway and just threw on a belt and still driving it this day ,also the old 88-95 civic 1.5 didn't bend valves either ,the 90-93 b18 tegs were safe from bent valves most of the time. as we have yet seen any of these motors bend valves unless they had a cam then all bets were off.

im really not a mechanic and dont know as much as those before me (picture me bowing to those with so much knowledge) but i recently had to get another h22a about 2 months ago because of a broken timing belt...pistons values and value springs all smashed...i also though i could save the head but once the engine was opened it was all bad so the engine swap was the logical choice she can easily get another engine with 130k for 400 to 600$ depending on what is equipped and what she can salvage

Praise to these absolutely sturdy as Mofucking hell engines. I snapped a timing belt going about 30mph at 140k miles. Had my mechanic slap a new timing belt on and I drove it the next day. Ever since I can hear my valvetrain clipping and clopping away like a horse on a brick road, but the damn thing just won't break! I love my honda, much as I abuse it.

same here.....my 94 accord ex broke the t-belt going about 30 mph and all we did was put on a new belt. the car still drives excellent with 223,000 miles on it and no signs on engine damage. theres a 50/50 chance on damage i think...

There seems to be alot of question as to wether the a20's are interference or not, but we have had a few members on 3g's break there belts with no problems. But if you're gonna be that specific about the code, you might as well throw in the a20a1(carbed), and a20a5(euro, less emmisions). Internally they're almost identical.

I think it's best to err on the side of caution and change the belts every 90k.
