hello and a few questions
Hello all, I have been browsing for a while and just registered. Today I took my 96 105K Accord LX to the honda dealer for emmisions warranty extension service which includes pretty much a free tune up. They also found out that my oxygen sensor was faulty and said they would replace it covered by the warranty.
Before I took it there I knew that my valve cover gasket and spark plug tube seals were leaking and was planning on replacing them which I found out is fairly easy and are just under the valve cover.
Well... in addition the dealer said that I would need the "cam tower seals" (I have no idea what these are) replaced which requires removing the cam since they are way "down there". They quoted me a price of 339$ to replace all these seals. The OEM valve cover gasket kit includes the gaskets except this cam tower seal and is only $35. Is this a fair price and where are these cam tower seals and how hard are they to replace when you have the valve cover off?
They also said that I need to replace my distributor subassembly for $395 and somehow oil was getting in there....
They also found:
leaking oil pan gasket $279 (and possibly another $850 if they find any thing else there)
a leaking power steering pump for $195
and timing belt replacement for $529 (which I know I need but I was quoted $200 by another shop)
well, all this is very expensive and I am a little shocked in teh sense that my car drives just FINE. I would like to be able to tackle some of it myself after I am convinced that these are real problems. Any advice or opinions?
Thanks
