Default caliper removal hell

hey guys, i searched the forums and couldnt find an answer to my questionl. i apologize if this my prob has been adressed before.

i did the rear pads on my 1997 EX accord, on one side. the other side gave me problems removing those two bolts that secure the caliper. they are both stuck in there really tight. i used a wrench and then my breaker bar but they didnt budge...then one of the corners of the bolt rounded.

any sugesstions to fix this prob or am i screwed (honda dealership time)

thanks for any and all suggestions.

Hmm... heat maybe.
you'll just have to replace the rubber seals afterwards.

Go to Sears and buy the Craftsman Bolt-Out™ Damaged Bolt/Nut Remover Set. Soak the bolts with WD40 and make sure you turn the the wrench counter clockwise when removing bolts.

thanks guys,
im afraid of the heat idea just b/c one time my friend sarcastically asked me "do you think your rotors are hot?"

like a moron i stuck my finger on the surface of one of them only to recieve a suprise...pain! which manifested itself as denatured skin on my finger. ill try the bolt-off stuff.

thanks again,
andrew

Make sure you turn the wrench in the right direction, which is counterclockwise with the bolt facing you, like ruelpogi said.

If you're still working this problem also make sure that you are using a six point socket or box wrench, (instead of twelve point), they grip much better and harder to strip bolts heads, but you may already be pass this point.

Whenever you want to remove a stuck bolt, always give it a nice jolt. You must have a breaker bar to do this.

Try WD40 and remember: Lefty/Loosey - Righty/Tighty

yes all the idea's are very good and would work under most circumstances. unfortunatly for me i tried all these idea's prior to posting. i think what i may do is go to one of those walk-in brake shops and ask them to just unfreeze and replace the bolts.

i highly doubt they will let me get away with that. they'll tell me i need new calipers and other stuff.

did you try tightening first? sometimes you can break a bolt loose by turning it tight a little and then loosening. i had the same problem with my front calipers and that was the only way i was able to get the bolts off. a breaker bar is a great idea too. just not one of the shi**y ones...spend the money and get a good craftsman or a pipe from hardware that will fit over yer wrench.
