What is the standard capacity for a 93 accord dx fuel tank? I ran it dry this week and can only put 9.5 gallons in it. That is overflowing too. Is this the normal size tank or an optional size? Maybe somebody has put a smaller tank in, I am kinda confused.

9.5 gallons is really uncommon. I am not sure about dx model. But all accord should have about 17 gallons capacity. My add oil light is on about 14 gallons though.

 

on the 90-93 accords it's 17 gallons so if your running out of gas @ 9.5 then there's somthing wrong. I have seen where someone skimps out and puts a aftermarket fuel pump in where the pickup tube is short or in the wrong angle and stops pulling fuel @ half tank . and on the 4th gen you have to pull the whole tank to get at the pump.

 

I am sorry, I also forgot to mention that when it is full it only shows 3/4 tank on the gauge. Could that have to do with the pickup tube as well?

 

if the pickup tube is wrong or shorter then the stock one you can run out of gas and still have a half tank of gas as the pump just cannot suck any more gas , just like a short straw in a big gulp. but the only way to find out is to drop the tank the next time you run out and see how much gas is still in there .

 

Ok, thanks for all of the info but I'm still wondering about the quantity indication. Why would the gauge not read full when it is full and could it be related to the pickup tube being short or in the wrong position? I guess what I am wanting to make sure of is that if I drop the tank for one problem that I fix it all when I have it down.

you could have 2 problems as the pickup tube is only for the fuel only the gauge has a sender unit is s seperate unit that has to be tested to see if it's the sender or the gauge is bad .

 

It could be the gauge sensor (I don't know the tech. term). The "floater" that registers your gas level maybe?

 

Could be a problem with the float in the gas tank.
I had a 2nd gen Accord and I couldn't fill it past 1/2 tank
Had it checked out and it was the float.
Same symptoms you have. I just couldn't fill it up all the way.
