Default Who knows about stoplight / brake switches?

My car wouldn't release from park, and I had no brake lights. So I went to AutoZone and bought a replacement switch. One of the questions that they asked me was if I had cruise control or not. I told them yes, and they gave me the switch. I put it in - it looks just like the old one.

But now I have no cruise control. Brake lights, yes, shift release, but no cruise.

I went to AutoZone's website, and put in my car (99 accord EX v6, cruise) and looked up the part... and it lists the exact same part number (Wells JA4296) for both with and without cruise.

It doesn't say that it works with both, but when you click on one or the other it takes you to the same part.

So I am wondering - could there be an error on the site or the AutoZone cross-reference list? Shouldn't there be two different items - one for cruise and one without?

I sent an email to AutoZone and haven't heard back from them.

Any ideas?

If my thinking is wrong... does anyone have any other ideas as to what may be wrong?

Thanks,

Paul

I would say take the switch back and go to Advanced Auto, they are usually more accurate with parts and if you look on the website they have several different applications, compared to the one from Autozone

It's a stoplight brake switch - goes above the brake and tells the car when the brake pedal is presses so that it can turn on the brake lights, release the shift control out of park, and cancel the cruise control.

Great question. No, I didn't. I will take a look tonight (don't have the manual to tell me which one it is.)

But - wouldn't there be other items that aren't working?

No, usually CC has its own fuse, I think theres only one on the inside of the car, but you might want to check under the hood as well.

Okay, I checked the fuse. It's on the driver side - 15A - and it's fine. I looked in the manual, and I couldn't see anything under the hood related to the cruise control.

Any other ideas?

I really appreciate the help...
