are all your posts useless and pesimistic?

this forum is here as an information source for people to properly do thier own repairs/upkeep. By coming here and posting the question he can now change his own ATF, that would be an example of someone who uses his resources and has the capability to learn... unlike OTHER PEOPLE! cough...Splatch....cough

BTW: on topic, i have always filled through the ATF tube. and Good luck with the upkeep of your accord, welcome to HAN

This is an easy DIY, pretty hard to mess it up. Easier than changing your oil...there is no filter to worry about. Just get a new crush washer, torque drain bolt to spec, use Honda ATF, fill appropriate amount via filler tube with long skinny funnel...done.

What did the old fluid look like? Smell like?

When you drain & fill you only get about 1/3 of the fluid because the torque converter doesn't drain. If the fluid didn't look very healthy, you ought to do a couple more drain/fills after driving 25 or more miles in between.

Finally, when you ask stuff, it's important to say EXACTLY what you have. In this case the 4-cyl & V-6 transmissions are COMPLETELY different from each other.

My 5sp I4 accord does not have a dip stick for transmission fluid? How do I replace the fluid?

the dealer could also ream you with a large bill for this job.
ITs as simple as changing your oil.
I think changing a flat is more annoying than changing your tranny oil.

Accord manual trannys don't have a dip-stick. There's a drain plug underneath the right-side axle, & a fill plug to the rear of the axle, about the same elevation as the axle. Fill it until it starts spilling back out the fill-hole, with the car level.

Anyone else had a problem getting the plug out? I have a '96 dx auto and never was able to get the plug out. Tried breaker bars, impacts, and everything else i could think of and never have been able to get it out still. I know regular maintenance was performed before my sister bought it @ 85K and I know she never serviced it since and it's now @ 146K so I'm really pushing it I think. Any help or ideas?
