Question about my Accord LX - it's a 2003 LX model with the 4 cylinder engine. When i start it up in the am, the idle starts at 1500 rpm, then as the engine warms up, it drops down to around 750 rpm. This concerns me a bit since i can put the car in drive and it'll go up to about 15 mph without touching the gas pedal.

Is this normal or what's up? the car has 52,000 miles on it.

that's normal.

the colder the climate, the higher the starting RPM's. Where do you live? Is the car outside overnight?

 

Mine starts out at about 1500 then when its warm drops to about 900 or a grand

 

yeah, it's outside at night. last night it was about 45 or so. just wondered because when you start your car in the AM, the oil's a bit thicker. but if it's normal, then i won't worry. just that my older car didnt do it. starts up at 750 rpm at idle.

thats normal Bro...Your engine is programed to idle at 1500 till it gets warmed up.

 

Same thing on my V6, starts at about 1200 and drops down to 800 when hot.
