I have a 91 accord lx sedan. I have a really strange idle problem. When I start the car or have it in park, the idle constantly goes up to 3000 rpms when car is cold and 2000 rpms when car is already warmed up. It wont stay that high. It goes up and down up and down up and down as if I were pushing the gas and letting go. Someone told me that it could be the throttle body but i never changed it. Is there anything else that it might be? Also when I am stop at a light the car putters and the idle is at or a little over 1000 rpms. I need help bad. Please help.
Sounds like your IACV is clogged. Pull it off and take a look at the mesh screen. I would bet that it is clogged with carbon. Use a little throttle body cleaner to clean it up.
I suggest to replace the IACV(Idle Air Control Valve). Cleaning it will help but it just going to get carbon clogged quicker due to the wear on the screen.
