Default Thoughts on cold air intakes?

So I'm a newbie, so forgive me already. A while ago a friend of mine was extolling the benefits of a cold air intake on all his family members vehicles. I think he has a ford truck, and a grand cherokee. Anyway, I forget the brand, although I'm sure it was a common one. From what I understand the install was simple and the part was semi-inexpensive. I think the benefits were increased horsepower and something to talk about. I briefly considered putting one in my 4 door 98 v6 accord (otherwise factory), but I don't fully trust the opinions of one person.
I guess I'm looking for a do or don't on this one and why. Can anyone also explain the overall benefit of installing one of these type devices? Thanks!

...please use the search button. if you have already, its hard to believe judging from your post. type in "CAI" or "performance mods" or "something obvoius". not to sound like an @$$, but it'll save you time.

the do's and don't's will be far ranging w/ tons of variance depending on your own personal wants and needs.

Buy a SRI if you have the J30A1, it gives more power than the CAI due to having a better resonance length for the engine. Stock accords with just the SRI have been known to run low 15's (no lie), whereas accords with just a CAI typicall run high 15s or even low 16s.

lol, it took me a while to figure out what SRI was. also for a while i didnt know what CAI was. and im too afraid to ask so i always figure it out on my own, after a long time of not knowing, lol. i still dont know what IMO stands for though. POS, i do know, lol. and in regards to this thread, if you want 5 extra bhp, do it, even if its gonna cost you like 2 hundred bucks or so.
