Default 90 Accord noisy fan after engine shutdown

Hi, folks. I just wondered if someone could help me with a problem with my 1990 Accord. I have a fan, located on the radiator next to the battery, that makes a rotten sound after I turn the engine off. I am afraid to drive the car in case something with this fan is about to quit, thus making the car overheat.

Any ideas? How difficult is the repair? My Haynes manual is not great with the pictures, description because there are two fans at the same location not labeled in the pictures.

Thanks very much.

Hi, welcome to HAN. You're going to have to be a lot more specific and detailed as to what the noise is. a 'rotten' noise doesn't tell us anything really.

Default Grinding noise

I've had the car for awhile and this new grinding noise sounds like a motor or a bearing is grinding to it's last legs. The fan has always kicked on after driving awhile--it just has a new, not very pretty sound that is coming from this fan that best sounds like grinding.

Try removing it, taking it apart and regreasing the bearings. Maybe it's just dried up.

I am having a similar issue.... Mine is the fan on the drivers side... started only when I had the AC on, and now does it intermitantly when the car is off, even with the key out... It makes a loud squealing, whining, screatching noise. --- very embarassing when I get out of my car at work and walk away and it starts squealing and squelching at me.. --- I hope greasing the bearings works

Whether or not it fixed HIS noise, it's still a good idea. But first check whether the fan blades are hitting the shroud or something silly like that.

Sometimes greasing the motor shaft just doesn't work & you need a new motor.
