Gauge cluster removal?
I noticed a while back that the plastic cover covering my gauge cluster has gotten spotty and I would like to clean it off. Problem is, I don't know how to remove the gauge cluster or just the plastic(which is all I want to do) so I can clean it off. Anyone here have any tips on how I can remove the plastic cover from my gauge cluster so I can clean it off? BTW, my car is a 2000 V6, if that helps out any. Please let me know how to do this seemingly simple procedure, thanks!
do a search... this has been covered many times
remove the two screws on top, and pull the black panel out. The there are 4 screws holding the unit to the dash. unscrew those and the cluster should come loose. I dont remember how many screws hold the plastic piece onto the unit... but dont F anything up while youre disassembling it. IMO just take a paper towel and clean it; its easier

well said janiVI.
i don't see why you'd want to take the whole thing out to clean it, unless you want to clean it from inside out..
there are two screws holding the gauge cluster pannel trim.
take the screws off and there are 4 clips that are holding the trim in place, so lower your steering wheel for more room to work with and just pull on it. it'll need some pulling. but becareful when you are doig this.
and there are 4 screws that are holding the actual gauge cluster down. two on top and bottom. after unscrewing the screws, tilt it from top, and unplug the harnesses, there are three of them. and then just carefully pull them out.
i found couple of pictures, here is a indepth view of it.

^that is called "System Name\Component : COMBINATION METER (FORD)"
yeah..our gauge clusters are made from Ford, like it or not.

If the gauge clusters are made from Ford then I've got it made because I've taken out the cluster in my Ranger many many times and even switched from no tachometer to one with a tachometer and even swapped out the odometers. But all I want to do is clean the plastic from the inside because it's gotten spotty for some reason. But thanks a lot for the help and next time I'll definitely have to do a search on this common topic, thanks!
I guess my post didn't go through :dunno:
The gauge faces are actually made by Visteon, which used to be a subsidiary of Ford but (I believe) is recently independant. But I might be thinking of Delphi. I almost went to work for Visteon...great company, lots of good ideas, but declining profits because they supply almost exclusively to the Big 3.
