Default 1996, 1994? Accord airbag connectors.....

Hey you gas powered gurus,

can you help an old diesel mechanic out with an airbag problem? I have an airbag that is supposed to be for a 1996 Accord.... but the connector doesn't exactly match my original airbag. Honda informed me that I needed an airbag so I did the prudent thing and bought one.... used.

I am wondering what the harm would be in removing the wires from the plastic connectors and switching them over.... my bag has two red wires, the one I bought has a red and a white. I am concerned with polarity issues... but I would think there is none since this thing just fires off when it gets some voltage from what I understand... any and all information regarding this issue would be well appreciated... I have been told by someone who does work in the airbag business that he has seen people switch the connectors on several occasions but he could not answer any questions about polarity.... thanks in advance......

94-95 accords have diffrent airbags and computers then 96-97s just the plugs are diffrent and can be swaped on the harness side just repin it and don't cut the wires .

Default Harness, car side, or bag side.... I have both bag

connectors... getting the car side might be tricky.... I don't see why I can't be careful and remove the wires on the bags and switch them... this is what I understood the man at a rather large air bag supplier to mean. If polarity is not an issue I am going for it. This used non-deployed bag, (mine is a '96 and has never been deployed either) cost me one fifth of a new one... so I am willing to give it a go. I had been told by Honda themselves that mine has a problem that is keeping the SRS light on.... I had had it reset a long time ago... but naturally it came back on... thanks for the input, let me know if there is any rhyme or reason to the two wires as in position or polarity....

I was able to change (with great trepidation) the connectors on the bags... so far so good, but I can't get the MES connector off the fuse panel... what a place to stick something... and put the release on the backside... perhaps I am going after the wrong connector, would be nice if it was that one hanging right there with a dead head plug on it.... ripe for the picking it is... please advise if you know if that is the one I should be resetting with.

I swapped out the harness side on my 94 as I had a 96 one when I bought the car used bag on pass side and newspaper filled on the driver's side was easy but could have did it either way... as for the MES connector it's not pluged into the fusebox thats the power for the srs system it's over by the fuse box it's a 2 pin connector that lookes just like the SCS connector but yellow , it should branch from the srs harness it's the one that is in a dead end connector.

Oh... good deal, that connector will be mine later today.... during lunch perhaps... as far as the connector goes, this is a bit of great news... I was hoping that was the puppy..... I'll tell you one thing, whoever put that srs power connector in (the design engineers) certainly didn't wan't it to come out. Will post back tonight with results... I am starting to wonder why the fellow on Ebay took his '94 out.... I hope it wan't because the SRS light was on all the time... now wouldn't that be a waste of a bunch of money on my part.....

Sorry to report, the SRS light will not reset with the replacement bag... back to square one... is there ever a situation where the manual method fails but the diagnostic tool will get it done?? Please tell me this is possible... really reaching now....
