Default 1996, 1994? Accord airbag connectors.....

Hey you gas powered gurus,

can you help an old diesel mechanic out with an airbag problem? I have an airbag that is supposed to be for a 1996 Accord.... but the connector doesn't exactly match my original airbag. Honda informed me that I needed an airbag so I did the prudent thing and bought one.... used.

I am wondering what the harm would be in removing the wires from the plastic connectors and switching them over.... my bag has two red wires, the one I bought has a red and a white. I am concerned with polarity issues... but I would think there is none since this thing just fires off when it gets some voltage from what I understand... any and all information regarding this issue would be well appreciated... I have been told by someone who does work in the airbag business that he has seen people switch the connectors on several occasions but he could not answer any questions about polarity.... thanks in advance......
