Default 96 Accord: sluggish acceleration

Hi all,
My 96 Honda Accord started giving me problem lately. It has hard time to pick up speed when Stop N Go. I need to pump the pedal couple times before it finally resume to normal. It also occurs when I turn the wheel to make a turn. The car will suddenly become sluggish. Sometime it even happened when I was driving on the highway. It feels like the engine can not get enough fuel and then the engine start rattling. Can somebody tell me what is the problem? The mechanics in Honda dealer told me that is a EGR problem. I doubt that is not the problem cause because the engine check light is not on.

well, clogged egr ports can cause sluggish acceleration and are usually never cleaned out. how many miles is on your accord?

Classic clogged EGR symptom. It won't necessarily set off a CEL.

Aside from that, are basic maintenance items taken care of? Air filter, spark plugs, etc.

Thanks for the responses. It is an automatic w/ 84,000 miles on it.
If this is EGR problem, why the engine check light was never on?

Very rarely does it set off a CEL. I don't even know if there is a CEL for it for your generation, look in my DTC FAQ thread.

hey guys, I had the same problem with my accord and so the guys at Diamond Bar honda said it was the fuel pump, ever since, the engine revs like crazy, no more waiting for the car to reach 60 at the highway. hehehe

don't take my word on it, it might be what 98coupev6 said, he always helps a lot around here, he has more experience than others around here.
