Manualy Shifting
you shouldn't have any problems doing that
it'll probably rev you higher and probably accelerate faster
however don't forget to do to shift up
i assume its ok but i don't know for sure
i've never heard of problems related to that

This has been gone over a lot. It's stupid, slower than letting the tranny shift for itself, and wears out the tranny quicker. I occaisonally drop it into D3 on the highway when I don't want it to upshift or want to force a downshift (rarely), and put it in 2 a LOT during winter to start off easier, but if you make a habit of it it's not good for anything.
My cousin did it for fun, it loved it until one day he accidently pressed the knob and put it in reverse while the car was traveling 20mph forward, now the transmission does not work in reverse, how pathetic... The next thing I know, he sold the car just like that and bought a 5sp accord.

It is fine to do it. The transmission is shifted electronically therefore when you shift it as long as u shift is properly and not hitting the rev limiter it will last normally. my car has 106k and it is fine i have been doing it for as long as i have had my car. 6years
As for the thing about the reverse thing i know that mine at least it will not engage into reverse beacuse the computer doesnt let it shift. I flash people w/ my reverse lights when they are tailgating me just by slapping it into reverse. (i can only vouch for this if is a 99 or newer accord or civic)

I used to have a V8 car w/auto. when I was a lot younger. It was great fun to run it up to 20 or so in D1, let the rpm settle, then floor it and bark the tires. Of course, when my tranny finally crapped out, it was so simple I was able to rebuild it myself. I miss old school cars...
