Yes. That's why autos have D1 - D2 - D3. Just watch your shift points and don't over-rev it, especially downshifting. However, I don't think you'll get where you're going any faster.

I used to have a V8 car w/auto. when I was a lot younger. It was great fun to run it up to 20 or so in D1, let the rpm settle, then floor it and bark the tires. Of course, when my tranny finally crapped out, it was so simple I was able to rebuild it myself. I miss old school cars...
