Default 1994 Honda Accord EX

I am working on a 94 Accord and seem to be in a bind. The car has a sluggish jerky motor when you first accelerate and then seems to smooth out once you get going.I held the brake and gave it a little gas and it does it too.The car idles fine and runs fine once you get going.I have given the car a complete tune up being i replaced the wires, plugs, cap and rotor, fuel filter, air filter and the pcv valve..so i waswondering if maybe the timing belt jump a tooth or could it be something else...its got me puzzled ..any help would be great ..thanks

sluggish jerky motor when you first accelerate
That's not normal, I don't know what these guys are talking about. Does the motor stumble around 1.5-2k rpm when you accelerate? In other words you feel a shudder and you can see the rpms drop slightly and back up again. If so, it's probably your EGR ports.

Yeah the timing belt could have jumped a tooth I suppose, but it's unlikely.

Suck a can of seafoam in there and see if it still does it - I suspect carbon build up.

Does it do it in '2' as well? If not, it's engine related and not tranny.

It's unlikely that it would be the EGR valve, it's the small ports in the manifold that get clogged and have to be cleaned out. You can disconnect the vacuum hose from the EGR valve and drive it around and if the sluggishness/stumbling goes away then that's your problem.

Here's a tutorial for EGR port cleaning: EGR_Port_cleaning_accord.pdf
