Default Modifying the factory exhaust

Has anybody ever modified the factory exhaust on a 6th Gen Accord 4cyl by replacing the small muffler before the main muffler (I don't know what you call it) with a straight pipe?

I wondering how that would sound :driving: since technically you are removing part of the silencing that happens before the main muffler.

Thanks.

I think your car is an OBDII vehicle which restricts what you can do to the exhaust, like removing the cat. In California you can't do it at all legally. In some states you can install an aftermarket cat, referred to as a "free flow" catyltic converter. OBDII cars also have an O2 sensor bung coming out of the cat if I am not mistaken. Check your Chiltons book. If you bypass it you will impact the backpressure of the engine and I bet it will sound more like a tractor than a sports car.

Not the cat. It's a small muffler, maybe called a resonator, that is between the cat and muffler. On the 6th gen lx, 4cyl, it's tucked away in the center of the car.

Does straight piping it make it sounds louder while still using the factory muffler?

well thats the setup I have on my vr6.

If you ever heard a vr6 rev with the stock mufflers etc...it will sound about the same if not a bit deeper. Nothing like driving with a hole in your muffler.

you remove the resonator, you'll get really really loud.

So, nobody has ever done this on an Accord?

Flyromeo3 did it on his VR6, but I think that is such a completely different engine that you can't use his results as a guide for an Accord I4.
