Default Moonroof to sunroof?

Hey peoples... been awhile... Can I convert my 96 accord's moonroof into a sunroof? And if I can, how much will it cost me?

from this:

to something like this:

thanks!

They're both defined as "moonroofs". Any time the glass retracts back to leave a hole, it's a moonroof. (I have NO idea why Honda jp defines it like the way they do.) The reason why yours retracts into the frame is because you have enough room.

Sports coupes don't have enough roof space to hold a piece of glass, so they go over the top.

Since your car is accomidated for the more complicated of the 2 systems, I don't think converting would be the easiest thing to do. You're looking at 900+ for the coupe hardware to begin with.

mmmm i also have a 96aaccord with moonroof and i have seen many 5th gen accord with the sunroof convertion. I really think is not that hard to do it and there is no way is going to cost $900 or even near that. The only way it can cost around that price is if u dont have a moonroof or sunroof at all. I think the moonroof looks better with the visor. 5th gen that is.

The ones you're seeing has to be a non-honda aftermarket roof. Those are 500 and do not interface to the stock harness.

An OEM roof with glass, rails, etc are VERY expensive. Trust me on this.

glass $625
frame $310
shade $260

and that's assuming this even fits.

Moonroof: Glass
Sunroof: Sheetmetal

That's only in the US. I believe everywhere else they're all called sunroofs. I call mine a sunroof because I think 'moonroof' sounds pompous.

Now that we have that out of the way...why bother? It'll probably be noisier.

(e3NiNe on the gf's PC)

I thought "moonroofs" are electric and roll back

sunroofs are manual and only pop up.

Your right. Sunroofs had a rectangular part of the metal/fabric roof itself sliding instead of glass. However they stopped making sunroofs in cars really long ago, unless u count convertibles.
Sunroofs were made in mid-60's and moonroofs were made a lot later.
So Everything out there is a moonroof, but they are called sunroofs anyways. Go figure.

Coming back to the topic, shouldnt you be able to re-use the glass. It looks like the same size to me. That should save you some money.
