Default TSX v. EX V-6

Hello all! Former Accord owner here looking to get back into a Honda/Acura. Looking at these 2 cars:TSX auto, no navigation and an EX V-6. I put a lot of miles on my cars and truly enjoy driving. I would like the board's opinion on these 2 fine autos-price is roughly the same.

Only concern is that I've heard that the V-6's trannies tend to be weak; TSXs' lack torque.

As an aside, which of these cars has timing belts vs. chains? I thought the six had a chain and the 4 uses a belt. Is that still true?

Only other car I'm considering is Saab 9-3 due to GM discount; may take a look at the Jetta w/2.0 turbo also.

Thanks!!

Test drive. If you have a specific question, ask us, but you can find all the other information you need by searching and test driving. The Accord V6 and TSX are totally different cars.

The TSX has a timing chain made by BorgWarner, the AV6 has a belt.

The V6s timing belt is no big deal 110k replacement.

Avoid any VW product, I see so many problems with their cars it's not worth the risk of purchasing.

Thank you. I've heard about a lot of problems, especially electrical, on the German cars.

Do I need to worry about the tranny on the V-6?

Both Acura and Honda dealers were packed so I will have to schedule a test drive.

I've heard that the TSX is one of the best handling FWD cars in the world. Tested the Saab 9-3, drove nice and with the GM discount it is at the same price point.

Thanks!!

It's tough not to buy a 9-3 with the discount. It's a great vehicle, but compared to the TSX it falls way short in reliability, handling, quality and equipment levels.

I wouldn't worry about the tranny, they've fixed the problems (which were mainly insufficient lubrication) that plagued early transmissions.

You have to decide what you want out of the car. Gas mileage, handeling and sportiness goes to the TSX. Space and power would represent the Accord. You cant go wrong with either, Good kuck.

I test drove a TSX and loved the way it handles, and it had plenty of power for my taste. besides you can reflash the ecu and add a couple of boltons to make it quicker. I'm also 230lbs and I'm 6'5 and I was comfortable in the TSX, as for the rear seats...I usually never sit in the back anyway.
my vote is to go for the TSX, it looks sexy and handles really well stock.
