Default Changing rotors on a 98 Accord

Hello all...

I just recently puchased a used 98 Honda Accord. My rotors and pads need to be replaced. I just purchased a set of rotors and pads for it. I have done many break jobs on American and German cars but not on a Honda.

Will I need any special tools other than the norm? i.e. sockets, breaker bar and a c-clamp.

I heard about the pain the a** bolts that hold the rotors on. Are these bolts on my Accord or just on certain years?

Does anyone have the torque specs handy for installing caliper bolts and wheel lugs?

thanks!

I'd also get an impact driver for the screws on the rotor, it will make life so much easier for you. other than that the front brakes are very easy. pretty much all you need is a 14 and 17mm ratchet to do the job. I'm assuming you already have brake cleaner, and PB blaster to help with the screws and bolts? I'd also get some anti-squeak gel or spray for the shims.

Will I be able to reuse the bolts on the rotor once removed with an impact driver or do I need to purchase new ones in advance?

Thanks

The bolts, well actually they are screws and they just basically hold the rotors in place on the hubs. If you get them out without screwing them up than yeah you can just reuse them.

?? Are these those blasted encapsulated rotors? If so, you had better do this job yourself and prepare to cuss. Otherwise spend around 800 bucks to get them dont at a shop... I pray for you that they are NOT encapsulated rotors.

no, the rotors are just held on by 2 screws they are not pressed in like the older generation accords. when you put on the new rotors brembo usually gives you new screws to use. you really don't have to put the screws back in anyway. once you get the caliper and the wheel back on, that will hold the rotor in place.

No. Beginning in 1998 Honda dropped those pressed rotors, in favor of normal rotors that come off just like any other car.
