Help! The SRS indicator light stays on.
I bought a car which is Honda Accord 1996. Unfortunately there was happened a car accident at the first day when I bought it to home. Then I found the SRS indicator light stays on after the engine started.
I don't know what's the problem with it. I heard of it will be very expensive to fix it. But I am just a student, I am afraid I cannot afford much money to repair a used car.
Please help me or give me a suggestion, if you can. Thank you very much!

I have a 96 Accord. SRS light came on one day while just driving, I was told it could be a number of things from the sensors in the seats, or in the seatbelts. It's possible it could be a fuse or the battery is to weak to power the airbag. I haven't attempted to fix it yet, so i can't better help you.
If you got into an accident and your SRS light is now on, that means something with the safety retainment system went bad. One of the sensors broke or an SRS line got disruped.
How do you check the Code for an SRS light that is on? Autzone can't do it, and I'd prefer not to go to the dealer.
Also, I've reset the light myself, and right now it's off (although every couple weeks it comes back no for no apparent reason). Can I assume that the Airbag system should operate as it should, given that the light is currently off?
Thanks.

Good luck. I had this same problem one month after buying a mint 95 from a co-worker earlier this year. The former owner was having the problem also - he replaced the battery at the dealer's suggestion (before I bought the car), it did not fix the problem. Eventually the light stayed on solid. Problem was diagnosed by the dealer and by a private shop as the SRS control module. They would not guarantee that the airbags would deploy in an accident unless the problem was corrected. My daughter is driving the car, no way my wife would let it go.
Bad news - no aftermarket options for the SRS controller, and parts and labor cost me around $900. (At least my co-worker split the cost with me - a decent fellow). I tried to get some assistance out of Honda America on this. No dice. Bottom line is that they would have replaced defective seatbelts at no charge, but would not help (even partially) to fix the SRS system. I was on the phone for an hour with them, to no avail.
I wish you the best,
Lou

the airbag has not deployed and the car has never been in an accident. the dealer told me that it could be cuz a cell phone or laptop was sitting on the front passenger seat. load of crap....nothing's been on the seat.
i've done the paperclip method to reset the light, but keeps coming back on.
