Default turbo accord owners, i need some help

Whats up, im going turbo very soon (waiting for the rest of my parts to come in the mail very soon) and i want to know what is the best way to get around using a stand alone engine management system. Im not boosting high at all. At the VERY highest will be 9psi, but imma set boost at 8psi daily. I want to know if there are any turboed people that have cars that run pretty close to stock without using a ems.

Yeah, the AEM EMS is a very pricey (but has tons of features) when compared to a universal piggyback that would do the job for around $300. While you're at it, buy a bigger fuel pump. It is the cheapest way you can turn up the boost without ruining your engine. From what I've seen, stock internals of most well designed engines can handle around twice the factory rated horsepower before they have problems, so fuel is your limiting factor. Most turbo kits I've seen make like 6 psi.

Get ahold of a wideband O2 sensor, and make sure whatever you decide to boost at is safe for the engine.

You could ghetto rig it with hacks, check valves, and FMUs, but I highly recommend against it. Fuel management is the most important part of a healthy turbo system, so cheaping out on that spells disaster for a motor with stock internals that were never meant for boost.

I don't know if you Accord guys have a chippable ECU, but if you do, I recommend you chip it and tune it with a free program like Uberdata or Chrome. If not, do it right and safely and shell out the money for the EMS.

shell out the money for the EMS it, get it tuned and do it right. notoriousB has gone thru 3 engines on his 99 accord with his turbo setup. if you want to know the dangers of running the hack, or some other fuel management setup he knows his stuff. he's usually on honda-tech if you want to ask him some questions. he just finished building his F23 with all sorts of goodies in his apartment. I had to help him move the fully built engine from his 3rd story apartment. what a workout that was.

So are anyone of you turboed? I need opinions from people that are, not what people think about EMS. I already know that ems is good and blah blah blah, but ems cost MORE then the custom turbo kit i put together and there is no way im buying it. Plus im not boosting high, like i said 8 daily, and if i ever goto the track (which i NEVER do) id throw it up to 9. So until i build my engine and actually boost above 10, there is no reason for me to spend 1200 on a stand alone.

So back to my original question, are there any turboed accord owners that are using a afc or fmu instead of a standalone. I need to know if there are any cars that run good on them, and if so what are your settings?

I posted one person you can talk to about turbo accords. he ran the afc hack for a little while before switching over to EMS. you can also talk to dracord on houduh.com he ran the hack for a little while as well with no problems.(switched to EMS) stinker504 is currently using the hack and is running 6lbs of boost with his auto tranny. he's been running the hack for a year or so with no problems. all those guys are 6th gen accord guys and they post on honduh.com on a regular basis. there are a few more guys over there that are boosted and they can answer a ton of questions you might have about the hack.
