ABS Question??????
About a week ago I yanked up my emergengy brake to spin my car around and it now seems to have no tension in it until it gets at least half way through it's travel. A few nights ago I got out of my car and my rotor was red hot (It was really glowing). It seems like the caliper was slightly squeezed on the rotor for a 15 mile drive. I pulled my wheel off and took the pads out and made sure the piston wasn't frozen (everything seemed fine). My emergengy brake still remains loose and does not have any tension until at least halfway through the travel when I pull it up. Now my abs light will click on after I drive forward about 20 feet or so. I know from experience that if I drive off with my emergency brake engaged my abs light will click on and this seems to be a safety feature. The light will still come on even when the emergengy brake lever is down. Any ideas? I'm thinking of replacing the caliper, rotors, and pads.
when you yanked it, you may have stretched the cable... now when the emergency brake appears to be disengaged (down), it's not disengaging all the way as it should because there is slack in it due to being stretched... so, in other words, your emergency brake could still be engaged ever so slightly... try adjusting the cable to the proper tension and see if that doesn't fix your problem...
