95 accord heat shield problem
ok well my brother has a 95 accord lx 4cy, and he went to go get tune up done on it at the dealer, and they said the heat shields need to be replaced, well i dont know exactly how much they want for that, but i called mr muffler and he said that the heat shields are useless and he'd just break them off, what your guys opinion? he also wants 200 to put a new b pipe on including buying the part, so i dont think hes a bad guy

My cat heat-shields are off, the only problem is that during periods of heavy rain and / or slushy wet snow, the cold water hits the cat every once in a while and causes it to cool off, this in turn causes the computer to retard the motor for about 10-15 seconds leading to less power and a nasty noise like you have an exhaust leak or no exhaust. (if the computer knew what was going on, it would add power which would solve the problem quicker). Personally, I don't think that leaving it off will harm anything, but if you live in a place w/ lots of snow or lots of rain it is something to think about.

If you park in a driveway or in someone's yard where the leaves are not raked (in the fall), the lower portion of the heat shield will protect the car from catching the leaves on fire.
Back in the day in high school when I had my first car, I pulled into a friend's driveway and he hadn't raked all the leaves. He was a lazy ass and made me pull all the way up to his house through the leaves. A bunch of them got jammed under the car and caught fire, I had to grab a rake out of the hands of the old lady next door to get the damned leaves out from under my car before they roasted the thing. Car smelled like a brushfire for about a month afterward.

Dude. Don't ever remove your heat shield. We got a car in the other day that had a plugged cat. The thing had so much backpressure it blew exhaust out the front cat flange and melted the O2 sensor. It read over 2000*. If you remove your heat shield it might be fine, until something like that happens. Then you will either be burnin your butt or putting out a car fire.
