Default valve adjustment necessary?

It doesn't really sound like the valves are ticking at all, but according to the maintenance schedule they should be adjusted. Do valves only require adjustment when they are ticking? Should I just leave them alone unil the tick is present? TIA

It's generally a good idea and part of the whole 'preventative maintenance' thing. You can hold off if you want and it won't be a big deal, as I'm doing right now, and you'll probably only lose a little power and efficiency and won't hurt anything. I'd love to get mine done though, they're ticking like crazy at certain throttle positions.

It can be very difficult to tell if they're actually ticking, and the noise won't appear obvious at idle until they're really bad.

Accords all have a little ticking anyway. If it's time to do your valves, why not do them? It's relatively easy to do and even a Hayne's manual can get you by for the job. It's routine maintenance and can help you keep better gas mileage, etc. Plus, if you're in there, it's a good time to go ahead and replace your valve cover gasket as well or vice versa.

Didn't know that, that explains why my car has been starting harder the past few months
