creaking from new suspension
I had written a while back about gettin my new springs and struts put in on my 94 lx. Well I took a weekend off and knocked it out.... not too bad at all (my friends got a wall mounted spring compressor... job only took 2 hours). Im using H&R springs (the race ones) with Tokico Illumina struts. It gives me about a 3 inch drop that looks and handles like a dream. Rides a bit rough, but I like it like that anyway. My problem is the springs creak now. When I am driving slowly around town, you can hear creaking coming from the corners. Is this the springs, or bushings, or what? The noise isnt loud, but it still pisses me off. Any suggestions on how to fix this, or what specifically I need to lubricate? Thanks in advance
I am not a suspension expert by any stretch of imagination, but I just can not see springs or shocks creaking. I would say, look into bushings, any other rubber parts that get involved. Check if springs sit properly in seats and pearches. Make sure if any bolts need to be tightened.
I agree that urethane bushings make difference in ride, but not sound wise. They are harder then rubber ones, thus making ride harsher. I would say if he kept some old rubber parts on, they may be the cause of creaking sounds. Energy Suspension makes great urethane bushing sets. Energy Suspension
How aggressive are the springs?
In some cases the coils from a massive drop spring can come together during compression making a noise, creak or clang.
My Eibach prokits have rubber pads-sleves on the springs to prevent this but a very aggressive race spring may not as it's not truely intented for street use so noise isn't really a factor in most cases.
Eibach ERS springs (race duty) don't usually have the pads.....

The springs are very aggresive, thats for sure. Im not sure what the manufacture quotes for the drop, but measuring before and after (from a chalk mark i made on the lip of the wheel well to the center of the hub) its a 2.9 inch drop in the back and a 3.1 inch drop in the front.
The springs have no pads, or anything of the sort. In fact, I found it a little odd that the spring sits right on the strut pearch with nothing in between... could this be an issue?
I kept on my original rubber bushings, so you all may be right, as I can imagine these making the noise. I will look into plastic bushings I think. I went through and everything was tight. It was just odd how everything was fine for the first few days, then the creaking started.
Thanks for the responses!
