Default Is my engine dead? please

I went out this morning and started the engine...
IT DIDNT StART!
so i checked if my battery were dead. they were fine. and then I noticed
My engine oil was EMPTY!! WTF?
I got it done last month and I still have more than 1k miles left to get new ones.

Im thinking they didn't shut it all the way. and the oil leaked out.

But what I dont understand is... when oil gets low, shouldn't low oil light pop up? because they never happened.

Im planning to go and and tell them what happened.. anyways...
is my engine dead? or is this something simple that I can just put oil and everything is going to be ok? help me out plz

I've seen an engine with 0.5 q. of oil left in there. It was fine. I think it really depends for how long it was on a very low oil level.

How low were you? I think oil guages reflect oil pressure rather then oil level. I think you still had enough oil in your engine for the light not to come on. Get your ride towed to the shop where you had your oil changed and get them check everything. Have your car been leaking or loosing oil before? If not then ......well you know what to do

yea...i heard it was oil pressure not level. so when it gets bone dry...i think the pump has nothing to pump so the light goes on?

not sure but my parents run their cars till the light goes on which is pretty stupid.

:werd: And the oil light will come up the second u start losing massive oil.
it happen to me this winter, the oil light came on and i already had driven a little more than a mile. I had the car towed immediatly to the shop who change my oil the day before. A oil pump seal (something like that ) blew out. the shop forgot to put the cap backin and the next morning the weather was n the -F and the min i started the car it starter leaking oil and i didnt notice until the oil light came on. there was oil on the road from the garage to where i had the car towed.

Dont start the car. have it towed and let them change the oil and let them fix it.

does the engine even crank?

is the dipstick completely dry, or is the oil just looking really low at the moment?

if the engine doesn't crank, try the starter. do a search, and you'll find plenty of people that have had the same problem (including me).

i might have this completely wrong, but when an engine has been stopped for a long time (say overnight) and is cold, doesn't the oil level reflected on the dipstick go down?

i believe when the engine is cold...the oil does go down, so yes.
