Do I need new battery?
My wife left our car door open and her battery ran dead. I took it to Advance Auto Parts to get it charged. They put it on some computer machine and it didnt have enough power to turn the machine on. They said they could charge it on a regular battery charger aka non-computer, but it may not take a charge. The counter person said that the battery had a sticker that said it was manufactured in 2000, and that I needed a new battery because it was 5+ years old and may not hold a charge properly and all that stuff.
My wife's car is a 92 Accord 4 door. She has a sub set, and a pioneer cd player. Other than that, her car is stock. She has a Sears RoeBuck Diehard Battery.
Will I be ok if I use the old battery or am I better off buying a new one? I dont know crap about batteries.

You need to take a voltmeter to it and find out what peak voltage it has when the car is running.
If you don't have one or can't procure one, you can pop off one of the little thick plastic covers on the top to check the battery acid level. It should be above the metal plates.
Or you could just buy a new battery since they're not that expensive. Did they charge it?

Older batteries die quickly during our brutal Chicago weather.

ACtually due to the brutal weather here in the northeast I needed to replace the battery. Cold starting my car was giving me a problem. Until i noticed that the battery needed to be replaced.
problem fixed!.
