Default cannot remove PCV valve

hi all,

i'm a noob too all this stuff; most i've done is change oil/filter. but i'm trying to change the PCV valve but it just won't come off the hose. it comes off the valve cover just fine (i'm assuming cuz of the oil?), but it is sealed on soooo tight onto the hose that leads into the intake manifold(?). tried to wiggle it out... wont budge. the other end of the hose that is connected to the intake manifold wont even budge either. what can i do to get the old PCV valve off the hose? wd-40? motor oil? anti-seize?

i've searched past posts and came across this thread...

https://www.honda-acura.net/forums/s...ange+pcv+valve

... but i still cant seem to get the pcv valve off the hose. im willing to change the hose too along w/ the pcv since i've read the pcv hose can get clogged up w/ carbon deposit, but i cant get the pcv hose off the intake manifold either. any suggestions? thanks!

this might be a really bad way of doing it, but i did it when i was installing my cai. i just got a thin, flathead screwdriver and slightly wedged it under the hose. id pull it up w/ the screwdriver, and then w/ my other hand id be half pulling and half peeling the hose off. at one point, it rolled up, kind of how youd roll up your sleeves on a dress shirt, and became easier to remove. the only drawback, from my experience anyway, was that it left a few scratch marks from the screwdriver where i had tried to pry it off. but...it worked. :P good luck~

twist and pull... twist and pull... etc etc etc...

A small flat head screwdriver works too but you need to be careful for 2 reasons:
1) you don't want to cut up the hose and more importantly...
2) you don't want it to slip and slide across your finger(s), gashing it open as it goes.

Just depending, it might not be a bad idea just to go ahead and replace that hose while you're at it anyway. That PCV valve generally isn't that hard to get out or at least it shouldn't be.

I agree on replacing the hose. They have a tendency to collapse with age. Replace it with a fuel line hose with two small hose clamps. Then you can just cut off the old hose with a razor

its probably melted a little after all the miles put it on it, try pulling the hose off using a plier, that doesnt work, vaccuum hose is only like 50cent a foot or something like that.

ok thanks for all the suggestions. i'm going to try the pliers + twist method and see how it goes. i figure i might as well change the hose while i'm at it. where can i get a new hose? do i have to go to the dealership? or can i just get it @ autozone? what do i ask for? "vacuum hose"? "pcv hose"?

AutoZone, Advance, PepBoys, wherever... Ask for the PCV valve hose and they should be able to help you get what you need.

There's a clamp that you have to slide down by using a pair of pliers. Squeeze the sides together and pull the clamp further down the hose. Once it's off you'll have to twist and pull the PCV valve loose.
