Default 91 Accord: suspension / strut question

I have a 1991 Accord with 178k. On the passenger side rear the shock when I hit a bump there's a loud noise and if I go around a curve kinda fast the rear end feels almost like it's sliding to the right. Today, I take the car to have it checked out and the guy says the shock is busted and I also need the housing (?) and some bushings. When I told my boyfriend how much the guy quoted he said to just buy the shocks and he would put them on for me. My questions are...do these other things - the housing (? I think this is the correct word - he made it sound like something that is right above the shock) and bushings come with shocks when you buy them or are they something that would have to be purchased separate? Is this something that my boyfriend could realisticly do (he's very handy) or is this best left to a professional? What is a GOOD brand of shocks and struts for someone who isn't into racing, but just wants something that's good for everyday driving? Thank you in advance.

Amy

hmm...i think he means the tophat. its liek the only thing that goes on top of the spring/shock assmebly.

your boyfriend can probably change the shock hella easy but id just change the front two since one will be like newer than the other. as far as brand, you can just go with just some oem or tokicko blue or KYB Gr-2's...

oh and you would have to buy the bushings seperately. those are important.
