Please help, new to honda's
I purchased a 2001 Accord LX, and when i was jumping it the other day, a little pop and a puff of smoke came out of the dash, and the power locks wont work. but, it has an after-market alarm (of which i do not know what kind, because the remote was lost.) i purchased it after it was wrecked so i have no way to get ahold of the previous owner. I am thinking, its either the puff of smoke caused the locks to quit working, but why would the smoke come out of the vents just above the AC and heat controls? or, the remote is needed to lock and unlock the doors and i will just have to rip it (aftermarket security) out. so, any help asap would be really good.
thanks guys

Have you checked any fuses yet? I'd check all the fuses, replace any that were blown, then see how it goes. It could be that the wiring for the aftermarket stuff somehow got shorted out, and worst case might need to redone/replaced.
If you get stuck, you could go to a reputable audio/security installer and have them remove the current aftermarket security system and install a new one or if it's obvious what's wront perhaps they can fix it.

I am assuming you purchased the car with a salvage title, since you stated you bought it after it was wrecked. There's always a certain amount of risk involved in buying a car after an accident, especially if it's been salvaged. The smoke coming from the HVAC vents could be absolutely anything. My advice is to take your car to a mechanic you trust and have him to a once over completely on the car. Inspect everything. And going back to your power door locks, Hondas don't use an old fashioned swtich - relay - solenoid door lock system. The power door locks are controled via a computer module (which is what employs the central locking system and delayed interior lighting). Even if the car was equiped with an aftermarket alarm and remote entry, if the aftermarket system failed and blew up, the power door locks would still work. If your power door locks do not operate at all with the switches on the doors, you most likely have a problem with the factory door control module.
Seems like a short circuit happened when you tried to jump start it. It may have burned the wire insulation which may explain the smoke. You need the electrical manual for the car to diagnose the problem.
