Default maintainance required light

Hi guys, i have a 2000 v6 accord. my maintainance required light came on today. I turned on my car (but not the engine), and the light flashed 10 times. Does anyone know what that means or the reason it came on? The last time it came on, my alternator crapped out a week later (coincidence?), so i don't wanna reset without knowing whats wrong... Thanks.

Save you $100. Take it into a auto parts store and they'll probably read it for you...no charge! I did that last time, it was my cat, luckily Honda replaced n/c because of some clean air act!

The maintenance light starts to flash every 6,000 miles and will stay lit after 7,500 miles. Look in your owners manual and it will show you how to reset the light.

You either need to change your oil, air filter, or spark plugs.

usually when my light comes on is around the time I need an oil change.

would it ever be something serious? or just usual maintenance stuff?

maybe i'll take it to pep boys, see if they'll do it for free...

edit: so i was reading some past posts, and people were saying that there are no codes for the main'td req'd light. is that true on the 6th gen? also, i had a 60k tune up about 5K ago, and I just changed my oil about 1K ago, so i dont know what the problem would be. thoughts guys?

There is usually one of these posts every couple weeks lol.

The MR light comes on based on mileage alone...that's it. So if you are keeping up the service intervals, just ignore it. If you need a reminder, it's there for you. It doesn't mean anything is wrong, that would be the check engine light (CEL), or (MIL as Honda calls it).

change your oil (if it's about that time)...then: Key off, hold the trip/reset button on the cluster and turn the key on. Continue holding the trip button until the maintenance light goes out. Cycle the key, and you're good to go.

OK, are you referring to your Maintainence light or your check engine light?

If it's your maintainence light, this is what you do;

Turn the car off, completely off. then press and hold the trip button. While doing that, turn the car to the on position but don't start the car. Hold the button for 10 seconds and the light should go out. After it goes out, turn the car off then start the car and you're all set.
That light is just a service reminder, that's all...nothing more.

If it's the Check engine light this is what you do
Go to Autozone and have them pull the code for you
then Click here for the problem

maintience lights are just that... for maintience.
they typically dont mean anything, and if they did, you wouldnt be able to remove the code yourself.
