Default Power Window Problem - Driver's Side

I was wondering if someone could help me. I've put in a couple hours of work with my power driver's side front window which will not go back up and here's what I've figured out:

*I got the door panel off -- a first -- so that was good
*The switch works for all of the other windows and it makes a sound when I press DOWN on the driver's window, but NOT up...
*However, when I press and hold down for about five seconds, the motor makes a *click* noise, which I assume to be some sort of an auto shut-off (so you don't keep trying to close an already closed window)
*When I press up on the button, it doesn't make any discrenable noise (I listened preatty closely [ear to door]) and couldn't hear anything HOWEVER after the same amount of time as with the down button, I heard a slightly softer *click*. Therefore I assume that the switch does indeed work but that it's cutting out because either
a) the motor's bad -- all the windows work slowly, and the driver's side had been kinda half way up, wait, next half from time to time or
b) the rod things that look like cables on a bicycle (which I assume make the window go up and down) are off track or
c) the window itself is off track.
Also, I tried pulling the window up but was unsuccessful -- I only figured out how to take the inside door panel off so I couldn't exactly get on both sides of the glass.

PLEASE PLEASE help if you can -- I live in the city and my car's window is completely open...plus, it's a $300+ job to fix and taxes are due tomorrow.

Thank you!

Same problem with me,

the motor had to be replaced, $190 at the dealer. I was desperate to fix it because I failed inpection! I believe Autozone sells window motors, they carry the Siemens brand ($99) with the regulator, but they need to order it.

The mechanic told me the clutch on the motor failed.

If you have your door panel off, the only way to move the window up is to remove the motor/regulator assembly and duct tape the window up until you replace the part.

I drove for a day with no drivers door panel, but the window up by duct tape.

it's a 96 lx sedan...the thing is, when i took off the door panel theres that white plasticy stuff with weird glue holding it onto the metal of the door and i didn't want to mess around with it so i COULDN'T push up the window. What is that stuff and if i take it off will it then be possible to push up the window (i can't imagine being able to get on both sides of the glass). and lastly, is that motor a) easy to install and b) reliable? I've never done this but i'll be damned if i pay $300 to have someone else put my window up. thanks!!!

That plastic is a water shield, make sure its not damaged when its removed. Otherwise, it needs to be replaced (about $25 from the dealer). I think you should take it to auto electric speicialist or a auto glass place. This job is pretty hard, I gave up and took it to shop.
