Is there a fix for the transmission problem? Heavy duty parts? Shift kit? Trans swap to a better transmission? etc...

If my slipping trannie will make it to 140K I'll be happy.

I'm at 124K right now. Will probably see 140K by end of summer.

Default Buy At Your Own Risk?

Is there a way to tell if a particular 6th generation Accord has a possible transmission defect before purchasing it privately?
For example, examing the VIN and getting the manufacturing date.

I know there is no possibility Honda Motor Corp. will give information narrowing the Accords down to the VIN which have these problems, but I know the transmission repair places have this data.

There are a small percent of Accords having this problem, but they should be at least listed for potential buyers.

So, do not buy one with the automatic transmission?

There are a small percent of Accords having this problem>>>

When Honda first issued the warranty/recall, only a relatively 'small' (something like 2%, with all models combined) had already had transmissions failures. As the cars get older and driven more miles... that percentage climbs. Some Honda/Acura dealerships are replacing up to 3-4 transmissions per week, if not more. My sister is the service manager at Royal honda in New Orleans, and she reports that they replace at least 3 every week. The current percentage of transmission failures is no where near 2% anymore. Wait until the 01-02 models get a little older and some miles on them...
