mushy brake pedal
Hello! Today I noticed when I pushed on the brake pedal, it would sometimes go down farther than it should. And while I held my foot on the brake, it would start to go down even farther....like it was loosing pressure. The brakes are fairly new, and they do still stop me. But does anybody know what might cause this? The master cylinder?
I don't know much about brakes, so any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks!
Oh....it's a '95 Accord LX.

First, check for fluid leaking out. And loss of inventory from the reservoir.
If there's air in the lines the pedal will be mushy when you first press it, but you can pump it & then it holds. Bleed your brakes.
If the pedal sinks slowly & smoothly to the floor while you're pressing not-very-hard on the pedal, then it's a bad master cylinder. I guess it doesn't hurt to try bleeding them, but it's usually not a permanent fix.

If your pads are in good shape, go ahead and bleed your lines. Depending on the age of your car and what maintenance you do or have had done, you may look to replace the brake fluid with some OEM Honda fluid.
Fluid absorbs water over time and this can cause "mushy" brakes too. Bleed and replace the fluid before you get into replacing major parts, etc.
HTH.
