Default 94 accord auto tranny dying?

Heres what im getting: You know when an auto usually downshifts you see the rpm needle go up and then you hear the engine start to rev again. Well in mine its like when the tranny downshifts and the rpm needle climbs its revving at the same time like its in neurtral or something. It still engages into gear but is this revving between shifts supposed to happen?

the accord auto tranny's are pretty strong...but it sounds like its slipping...you could flush the tranny but it might make the slipping worse....

Another thing ive noticed is that occasionally when i depress the pedal to get it to downshift, it will go all the way into first gear and rev up pretty high and then shift into 2nd pretty quick to correct itself. A friend told me it could just be me "tricking" my transmission if im on a slight incline but other auto trannys ive driven don't seem to be that dumb.

its possible for it to do that say if you were going down hill...im not sure if its normal but my tranny does that too every now and then it sounds almost like a manual and downshifts making it rev to 3-4k right?...again im not sure if its normal but mine does it sometimes too

I don't think it is anything out of the ordinary. The transmission will downshift at low RPMs and make it as subtle as possible to smoothen ride quality. I have noticed this with several Honda auto trannies and it shouldn't be jerky. As long as there is no slippage or rough engagement, there is really nothing to worry about.

And Honda auto trannies are pretty weak. They come no where near the strength of their manual trannies and fail often.

honda auto trannies ARE NOT strong, especially the F series auto trannies.

mine used to do that before it took a shit. try changing the ATF with honda ATF if that doesnt help its inevitable that its going to progressively get worst with the slipping.

Though, a friend of mine has blown 2 D16's in his 99 Civic and his 4spd automatic is FINE. It's got like 100K miles on it and I bet at least 50K of those were spent in the 5000+RPM range. I'M SERIOUS.

Of course, my F23 trannie is slipping and has been. See sig.

if you read about 5th gen accords, you will find they have a unique system for climbing hills.that is usually why people always say that some wierd crap happens with their tranny on hills.look into consumer guides, etc.you are bound to find something about it.as for dying, when my tranny just died recently, the rpms would shoot up and it would not catch into gear on upshifts,it would make a strange noise as if the cv`s were going out,but downshifting was never a problem.it could be your throttle position sensor or something stupid,so the best bet is to have a pro look at it.dont flush your system unless nothing else works, and if you do,take it to a tranny specialist.
