Default '97 Accord Engine Sound (2.2L SOHC)

There is a clicking sound coming from under the hood. My old car made the same noise when it was low on oil... only it was a lot louder. I was wondering if it was supposed to sound like that? My brother, who's an amateur mechanic, says that it's a combination of the fuel injectors and the belts making that noise. I'm about to take it to a real mechanic tomorrow, but I wanted to see if I could find some answers on here and maybe save me some money in the long run.

It runs fine... I've had no problems, but I just worry since it's got so many miles on it.

does it get louder as you rev the engine?

could be the valves that just need an adjustment

Well... I only notice it when it's idle. I don't think it gets louder, but if it does... it's not by that much.

why dont you pop your hood and see where exactly does the sound comes from? that might help narrowing down the problem.

If you have never adjusted your valves it is probally that. Belts dont make clicking noises.

Valve adjustment certainly won't hurt anything, but it won't completely rid the ticking. A slight 'ticking' at idle is perfectly normal for these engines, especially when the engine is cold. Honda 4-cylinders are notorious for this.
