questions
I have a 1992 Accord lx with under 50,000 miles which means i am going to have it for a while, which has raised a few questions in my mind.
1. I have noticed that while i am stopped my accord will shutter almost like it is going to stall but it doesn't. I looked at the tach and it reads at about 700 while at a light while in drive. It goes away once the car is in motion. Is there anyway to fix this?
2. There is a large amount of wind and or a rattling noise coming from the drivers window while i am driving (it might also be coming from the passenger side as well but i can not hear it.) Is there an adjustment that i can make to stop this noise, it seems that when i press out on the window it goes away?
3. I want to replace the speakers in the front but i have some concerns with the depth of the speaker and was wondering if any one had ever had any problems with the window hitting the speaker when rolling it down?
4. I was wondering if there was a way to motorize the two rear windows that just fold out like they do now on some mini vans in the rear?
any help with these would be appreciated.

1. sounds like a vac. leak or a jammed egr valve ... then again, it could be something like a timing belt, old spark pulgs, old spark wires.

3. it's not so much the window coming down, it's if you can get the door panel back in place. some of these newer speakers have such large magnets that they don't fit too well in tight spaces. from personal experience, the mid level Pioneer speakers sold at Wal-Mart are a terrific value. I got 3 way, 6.5's for my Accord almost 4 years ago and I get so many compliments about the sound in my car.
4. no, there's nothing like that around. you could be the 1st, but I wouldn't suggest it.
remember, just because your car doesn't have alot of miles on it doesn't mean parts don't need to be fixed. use this as a must do checklist ...
_ timing belt
_ power steering belt
_ water pump
_ spark plugs with wires
_ radiator fluid flush
_ transmission fluid change
_ brake bleed
_ power steering fluid change

A going bad fuel pump and a old fuel filter can make it do that, or maybe an idle problem that needs to be adjusted. Also, you could pick up a bottle of stp fuel injector cleaner, it might help and it only cost about 3 to 5 dollars. Then also some of the things "e3NiNe" said.
Well i have a 93 and the air gets in the front driver, and both back windows. I never recognize it anymore because my music is always turned up. So that will save you a couple dollars fixing that, just get the new speakers and turn it up.
Also when buying speakers for any car you have to check the specs of the speaker to make sure it fits (usaly you find these at the web site or on the box itself). Bigger magnets don't mean better sound, just keep that in mind. Anouther thing, the honda factory headunit seems to be real good, but if your speakers end up not sounding good it because of the headunit. (recomended speakers and headunits: Kenwood, alpine, Infinity, only some pioneer, and of course the high end "rockford fosgate who also makes regular speakers too, not just subs").

1. Go ahead and replace your PCV valve as well (You can rattle it to see if it's still good.). and/or It could be a general vacuum issue too. and/or go ahead and get some of that good fuel injector cleaner from Honda too that B12 stuff or whatever it is. They'll know what I'm talking about.
2. A few things maybe possible here. a) Your weather stripping has gone bad or been torn. b) You window may not be going all the way up which could be caused by worn out mechanical or shorting electrical window mechanisms (I'm giving you short form here.) OR c) at some point someone may have tried breaking into that window attempting to force it down and boogered it up for you. It happened on a 95 2 dr EX I once had.

Well, now i really have a problem. Today when i started my car (it snowed here) it started to squeak loudly. Which was amusing because i was on my way to get my oil changed. Well, i got out the oil place and it just got worse and worse but i figured that it might just be due to the cold here. Well, after my oil change on my way home it felt like my tranny shifted and then shifted back and about that time my engine light came on. Such fun, i guess we will see what the computer says is wrong when i hook it up to the computer when i take it in to my mechanic on monday. I just hope the tranny and engine is ok since i think that i usually drive it hard, my fault i guess. If not, do any of you know what the best option would be and how much it might be? For example, how much would it be to maybe convert my auto to standard?
I guess i will see monday how much money this is going to be to fix it, hope fully it won't be to much because other wise i have to go back to driving my civic with bad breaks and a really bad tranny (no money to fix it so it sits in the drive way).
btw, thanks for all your help.

well, after much deliberation the mechanic decided that my distributer died and that it needs to be replaced. I didn't think that distributers could sound like that but i guess they can. All i can say is that Honda + Distrubuter + Me = bad. I replaced 4 on my civic in a two or three year period and now i have to replace this one. Can you kill a distributer by driving your car hard?
Sounds like your going to a rip off mechanic that makes you keep coming back for more fixs.
Other than tha do you have any thing electical hooked to you car, Do you clean your engine with water often, is there any leaks around the distributer, etc...

The early '90's hondas did have distributor issues and they can get loud if the bearing is going. A low mileage car like yours is nice to find, but can sometimes have issues from not being used enough. You rough idle could be a vacuum line with dry rot. Or, an easy check is of the IAC (Idle air control) valve. It is mounted right below the area that say PGM-FI on the throttle body. There is a screen there on the valve that can get clogged. Spraying some throttle body cleaner on it to clean it off may do the trick. I had mine get some carbon buildup and once cleaned my idle returned to smooth.
