the check emissions light is on
I looked in the manual, and it said that it has something to do with my emission's system or somethin. It said that it could be my gas cap being on lose, but i checked that and it was coo. And it also said it should go off after 3 starts and it would decrease performace. Anyone know if i could fix whatever it is by myself?
It will go of in three trips not start. That need to be clarified. A trip is considered by the computer when all the test criteria is met. If you start the car and go 1 mile to the store thats not a trip unless all the tests are met. It will only fix itself or turn itself off if indeed the cap was loose and all the tests pas. This could take in upwards of a2 weeks
damn two weeks? But i can kinda feel my car bog down after 3000 rpms. And for the last month or so (after i got my timingbelt replaced) my vtec felt all wierd. It wouldnt kick in at all, then @ 3500 rpms it would kick in hard, like never before. But that only lasted for about 2-3 weeks, now my car kind of studders instead of going faster when vtec kicks in.
Im assuming from your posts its a 00 coupe?
You can always go to an autozone or somewhere that will do a free diagnostic check and get back to me with the code. It should start with a p??? And is it a 4 or 6 cyl?

The code was p1257 i believe something to do with a sensor, the guy at autozone told me it might have something to do with my alarm and the immobilizer not working right. I have the exact code and what it said in my car, ill grab it in the morning, and update this post.
P1257 is a VTEC system malfunction in my '98-'99 Accord list. Probably the same for yours?
I don't have a breakdown of the different VTEC codes at the moment, so it could be something like...
- low oil pressure
- bad VTEC oil pressure switch (or it's circuit)
- bad VTEC solenoid (or it's circuit)
AutoZone can read the code number OK, but sometimes their list of descriptions is kinda strange... I'm always suspicious of anything higher than P0999, since only the lower ones are the same for all makes of cars.

yeah my vtec has been actin strange. Sometimes it wont engage when its spose to, and sometimes it will hit HARD almost like a turbo @ exactly 3500rpm's. But anyways, how would i fix it? or go about finding out whats bad and what to get replaced. Oh and i was running on NO oil for a while (i think i had a leak or they drained it when i got my timingbelt changed--but why would they do that?) But yeah, i put oil in and the problem is still there.
I actually had the light come on myself last week. I took it to Honda and they replaced the oxygen sensor for me. That actually explained a lot. i.e. sluggish performance, VTEC not kicking in correctly..
