Default 2005 Accords - Problems Fixed? (Honda Mechanics Please Read)

Hi,

I have seen from many posts on this site that 03 (and 04?) Accords have serious brake problems. I am also aware that 03s had transmission problem (2nd gear not lubricated enough so additional trans fluid pipe had to be installed).

My question for honda mechanics (and others) on this site is:

1. Did Honda correct these problems in 05 accords (or are they subject to same recalls/problems such as brakes and 2nd gear issues).

And one comment: I also have 2002 Camry LE 4 cyl. I bought it brand new in 2002 (50,000 miles now) which was the first year the car was redesigned and I gotta tell you - (knock on wood) I had NEVER had a single (and I mean a single) problem with that car. "Out of the box" the new Camry has been fantastic. It has been said that Toyota is a much more conservative auto maker then Honda (Honda is trying to "push the envelope") but it appears Toyota's conservitism seems to be a good thing?

Comments? Thx.

Yes the 2nd gear has been address thats why there is a vin range for the recall. Anything after that has been fixed internally. Also the brakes are the updated pads as well.

Also, not to hijack but I have an 03 Coupe, and my friend has the 04 Coupe 5spd, but his callipers are rusting at 16K and College Park Honda in College Park, MD are saying that there is nothing they can do. I say BS! The rust is not normal, I don't have rust on my 03. To add insult to injury, his tranny is not shifting smoothly, and going into gear like it supposed to, then when it does go into gear, it makes a clonking sound. Honda tech said that is normal since his Civic does the same thing. I could not believe what I heard! Now I know that under warranty the should replace the callipers, and the tranny problem should be looked into further. College Park Honda has the worst service dept in the world!

Well rust is kind of normal. Look at it this way. The calipers are bare metal with some treatment on them but its not a type that keeps them new forever. So bare metal eventually rusts right. Another factor is that if you have hub caps and he has aluminum spoke wheels than he lets in more moisture and road debris than you. Plus im not sure of your exact climate but road salt is also a factor. Look at it this way the caliper is a big chunk of metal, by the time it rusts through he will have already replaced them so i wouldn't spend much time worrying about that.

As for the shifting i really can't comment because i can't drive the car.

The car is an EX. I have never seen any Accord with the amount of rust this car has. 5th gen to 6th gen it doesn't matter. There is no way this is normal. I will try to get a pic for you.

My '04 EX Coupe makes a brief chirping sound when it shifts into 3rd at 25mph. After my lease is up in 3 years... I'm definitely turning this car back in. I have a bad feeling abotu it.

Sounds like just a loose belt.

I was at the LA Car Show last month or two ago.
A 2005 Honda Accord on display there with disc brakes all around
had horrid rust on them.

I was pretty shocked at this....afterall it was an Auto Show
and a 2005 model.
