The '03+ models do not have the bar. It's pretty straight forward. My '03 Corolla was also pretty easy to remove.
Depending on how you ventilation system is designed, once it gets dirty, it will block off nearly 50% or more of the airflow.

Yeah its about time, youll notice much better air flow once you do.

don't be surprised if your cabin filter is almost black after 5 years....I changed mine after 5 years...man it was dark

I was saying "look up" as in that question was already answered in this thread a few posts up. Accords started having cabin filters with the 6th gen in 98.
